Since the Great Hand-In I've suffered a terrible "hitting a brick wall" feeling of horrible deceleration. Not that I wasn't expecting it. I had a lot of things lined up to do, but seem to have done almost all of them in the first day. I've done two years worth of mending! So now I'm floating around in an empty house being clingy and objectionable and watching daytime TV.

Went to Mottisfont last week for a 6 mile ramble in the rain which was pleasantly green-and-grey in that lovely way that only England seems to manage. Also lunch at The Mill Arms which is always fabulous experience. After an hour of tripping over molehills you can thaw out in front of a giant log fire and stuff yourself on seafood. For a country pub their food is incredible. I would post pictures except that...

...halfway through yesterday afternoon whilst I was doing some data entry (you know, for money) there was a horrible clonkety-ping from my PC, a flash and a wierd smell of charred ceramic and burning dust and ALL WENT BLACK. After taking it apart, it transpires that a ruddy great heatsink had detached itself from the motherboard and crashed into the graphics card. RIP.
With a bit of judicious wiggling and RAM removal I got the HDD out (looks OK, but am scared to test it!). Ditto wireless card which was a long way underneath the graphics card and hopefully escaped...

Good job the thesis is in, right? Also why was the heatsink nominally attached using what looks like perished stickybacked plastic?? Oh yeah, engineering :D

Also, [livejournal.com profile] excy pointed me at Owl City today, and I find them quite compelling*, though maybe a little bit too twee and with not a great deal of variation between songs. Have finished Uncharted 2, which was great actually, and have pre-ordered Heavy Rain which looks a lot like a spookier, more Chandleresque version of Fahrenheit. Am also quite tempted by the *cough* utterly preposterous Dante's Inferno, although if any game title should be in inverted commas, this is it.

*Although 3/4 of the way through the album I did develop an overwhelming urge to kick the singer in the nuts, if indeed he has any.
