yeah, wotlk is pretty much rehash quests from all the other places. I went to the midnight launch and got half way through the first level that night and JUST leveled to 71 two nights ago after having it for over a week. I need a wow minion to level me to 80 so I can have fun again!
:D That's my point! It should be FUN levelling to 80, not a slog.
...the worst thing for me was the "ugh, talent points refunded AGAIN" and of course they renamed all the talents, gave them all new icons, and I have no idea how to play my level 70 character, despite the fact that there aren't really any NEW talents (I guess turning into a demon is cool, but I don't have anyone to instance with so it seems a bit much superfluous).
:D I've not been online since WotLK came out, so I've had to put up with looking over Dave's shoulder whilst he's playing, and even HE'S a human death knight! So my experience is limited.
All races can be, so I'm a Death Knight squid! Don't know about the quests, but I've been in three instances now and still haven't managed to pick up my jaw from the floor. They look amazing. Don't know about the quests, but the art team outdid itself once again!
1. DKs are all humans because for some inexplicable reason blizz gave humans a second pvp trinket in a racial called Every Man for Himself
2. My Gnoam DK was called Sardini and he was ossum
3. I don't think the quests are a total rehash, I mean obviously the back bone of the questing system is that basically you have to kill things or collect things in order to progress and level up but they have included some new things. In the first area you get to you have to free some guys from web prisons (remember that area in Terokkar forest?) the chance of getting the guys you want is actually quite low BUT, you can also free a shaman, a warrior or a mage type who will follow you around and help you kill mobs/heal you for about 3 minutes.
There's also a bunch of new things to try out, ride+deliver quests where you get to cure some Kodo and ride them back to safety, and another area where everything is enclosed in this weird mist (I almost shat myself when I walked in, the screen closed down with white fog and this giant thingy loomed out of the fog) so that the beach looks empty until you take two steps forwards. Oh, and you get to help repair some tanks and then drive them around and stomp the shit out of some zombies. And at one point you get to go on a magic carpet ride (and there are draginz, lots and lots of draginz!!!!!one1111).
So yes. Obviously there will be repetitions. Obviously at various points you're going to be looking at the screen and thinking "HOW much xp til the next level?" but didn't you do that while leveling from 1-60? or 60-70?
I admit I have been having a lot of fun with the new areas, the new spells and abilities but maybe I am old fashioned that way. Oh, and everything is fucking beautiful there. Gorgeous scenery that makes you realise what a crock of shit Hellfire Penisula really was.
I also have a problem with whatever they've done to the graphics. It looks so much smoother but I literally can't play the game for more than 10 minutes without feeling sea-sick. I've tried every single graphics option I could think of but nothing floats.
Dave is quite taken with the multi-person mounts and some of the new zones, but even he hasn't played that much compared to how much we used to play about 6 months ago. Having said that, to be honest, I was never very taken with TBC. Except Zangarmarsh. I looooooooooove Zangarmarsh, it's a living Rodney Matthews album cover :D ...and I totally agree about Hellfire.
Gnomes rule :) (and trolls, <3 tusks)
What I really, really want is another Silent Hill... Or another RE4... Or another Forbidden Siren... a quality spook-em-up that doesn't rely on guildmates and playing 97000 hours a week.
It hasn't been a slog at all. I just hit 79 last night and plan on topping it off tonight. The new quests are AWESOME. I haven't felt like "more of the same" since the starter zones.

Date: 2008-11-20 04:42 pm (UTC)Sadly, the most impressive thing I've seen of the expansion so far has been Grunntle's new pink mohawk and Bavarian uber-'stache combo!
Not that I dislike the new look ;)
