Data Entry, Thesis-Wrangling, Moar Beetles

I've acquired a paying job on a very ad hoc basis, doing data entry for a clinical trial so at least I shan't starve in the immediate future. Also I now have a more-or-less working copy of EndNote that doesn't need to connect (HA!) to the web every time I want to use it. Today's beetle is in a particularly flippant vein, to reflect my celebratish mood.

Coccinella ghibliensis

Oh, I joined DeviantArt too, in a spirit of experimentation, but it has the most retarded search function I've ever seen. That or I am just Too Old To Use The Internet. Which is possible. Anyone have a better clue than me? Also is it *really* 90% furry pr0n and bad fan art or am I looking at it wrong?

Eh, I'm doing alright. My phone took a dive with me a couple of weeks ago and has been non-functional.

I've enjoyed seeing your beetles. Maybe you should start a zoo? It would be awesome to see all these beetles, for real, crawling around.

I was wondering whether to try to make some 3D ones, but they'd still be sadly lifeless. It would be marvellous to have some living, I've imagined lifestyles and voices and gourmet preferences...
:D

Web game maybe, "Beetle manager" then "Championship beetle manager" and on to "World beetle manager". A Tale In The Desert let you breed 3D scarab beetles, which look like this (http://atitd.org/wiki/tale4/Jade_Scarab)

Making a 3D beetle who can walk around is very time-consuming, but it's possible. Something like Blender would do it, a machine that can play WoW ought to be able to run Blender somewhat. If you wait until you're done writing up, Blender 2.5 might be out, which should have a shallower learning curve.

But actually I really like these naturalist-style sketches. I don't think any 3D beetle, no matter how brilliantly constructed and artfully animated, would move me the same way.

something like Monster Rancher with beetles would be awesome
