Finally finished the original sketch.



Trying to track down a cheap copy of The Kalevala on the recommendation of a Finnish friend of mine. Not sure whether a translation in the original sung rhythm would annoy me too much, given the loathing of Longfellow instilled in me at secondary school. I guess it is half the point. Anyone read it?

I have! I tend to read prose translations of stuff, because I'm reading to gina information an that's the quickest way to do it - it's how I read the Edda, too.

Talk to zenicurean. He's Finnish and jolly clever to boot, and may be able to give you some pointers.

I'm definitely inclined that way, and even my Finnish friend said that he couldn't abide the meter (mind you he couldn't read the Finnish version and had to resort to an English translation because it was too archaic)

Noray said he was surprised that he liked it, given that "most Finnish stuff sucks". Yeah, he's Finnish too. :D
