Today's project

Last night I went to Goblets* for the first time in about 4 years and was pleasantly surprised. It suddenly struck me that I hadn't really been out socially in anger for at least a year, so was on a mission. Unfortunately, almost everywhere I used to hang out for fun has either closed or changed beyond recognition while I wasn't looking... now THAT makes me feel old.



I made this for the other half's birthday. Quite pleased with how it came out, as block printing was an utter disaster! Feels very odd to be actually having time to do stuff again after spending 7 days a week staring at my thesis. Still have to get the damn thing printed though, and STILL waiting for my supervisor to acknowledge reciept of the pdf I sent him of the final draft on Weds. Oh well, plus ca change etc etc.

Where did you try other than Goblets? I don't think I've been anywhere other than Goblets, Hobbit & Dinge for years...

We were initially gonna go to H2O at the bottom of Bevois Valley (used to be a gay bar with a great Mediterranean terrace at the back and a fab pool table, it was miraculous), but it's now under new management and is a Saint's supporters bar.

Then we were going to go to the Smugglers in Bernard Street (it's now closed), or Isobar in St Mary's (also gone).

The Dolphin (my old local) is also now closed, may re-open under new management but what's the point of that!? The Dungeon has been appalling the last few times I've been and I don't think I can bring myself to go there again! I can't deal with the Hobbit, and usually I'd go to The Shooting Star, but most people I know down there are off on holiday.

Going to The Edge tonight! It'll probably still be a cheese-market, but hey ho at least it's a giggle...

Of course The Nexus and Fez Bar have gone too (years back), Lennon's doesn't have weekend rock nights any more and neither does the Dorch.

Had a look at The Rhino too, but it's R'n'B on a Friday.

Think Hammy might have been DJing at Goblets, tho didn't check. Misc Indie anyway. Was pretty nice all things considered: music ok and not TOO FRIKKIN LOUD TO TALK, places to sit and nice enough crowd (although I did get chatted up by some truly frightening Indie wreckage).
