The sun is out, I've lost enough weight to do all of my remaining clothing up safely, my PhD is steaming along nicely, I almost broke my index finger thanks to an evening of roistering with Sir Professor Nicholas Wright (thanks to his pencil karate trick), and I completely coated my 10-month-old nephew, the floor and my lap in lentil stew last night. So, I think things are going well for a bit.
I'm not keen on memes, but this one's quite fun (and educational!):
Get thee to Wikipedia; type in your date of birth (without the year), and pick three events, two birthdays and one death that occurred on that date. I've picked out the ones that I went Oooohhhh at. Can you tell?
Here we go:
Events
1862 - Charles Dodgson (AKA Lewis Carroll) sends the handwritten manuscript of Alice's Adventures Underground to 10-year-old Alice Liddell.
1922 - Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon become the first people to enter the tomb of Egyptian King Tutankhamun in over 3000 years
1942 - The film Casablanca premieres at the Hollywood Theater in New York City.
Hmm... odd to think that Casablanca premiered a mere 365 days after the Pearl Harbour attack...
Birthdays
1951 - Cicciolina, Italian actress and politician (not exactly how I would have described her, but anyway... Have a look at her tasteful website.)
1894 - Norbert Wiener, American mathematician and founder of Cybernetics (d. 1964)
Death
1996 - Michael Bentine, British comedian (b. 1922)
And whilst I'm feeling historical, I hope you haven't all forgotted that it's Happy 200th Birthday to IKB this weekend! Have a good posthumous Birthday Party, Mr Brunel...
