Living in Interesting Times

Minuses:
Nephew in hospital (he's only 3 months old and coughing up blood, poor mite)
Brother in law unwell (two slipped discs)
Brother taken to casualty (car crash after my long-suffering Mother asked him to move out)
Most of the (fantastic) department I work with at CRUK sacked in the most appalling and immoral way possible BY ADMIN, with no consultation.
And good Lords isn't it one of those mornings where the news just makes you want to roll over and go back to sleep? WHAT ARE YOU DOING, WORLD? SRSLY?
Plusses:
A great girl I'd lost contact with just managed to track me down again.
An amazing talk on skin stem cells by Rune Toftgård
More good reviews of my Away Day talk that I sweated blood for
Hobbit came through and whisked me off to dinner at Bamboos, a new(ish) pan-Asian(ish) place in Soton where we proceeded to explode a crab all over the place. Mmmmm crab, slippery craaaab.
SOOOOO many great birthday wishes
And so, to my Olympus*, Jeeves!
*The microscope, not the mountain
