...but does anyone know how to work the insert chart function in OpenOffice Calc? It's even more terrifying than the one in MSExcel and I didn't think that was possible!! I can get any number of charts in, but getting my data to display is pretty hard, and I can't work out the series label function at all...

Charts are a bit tricky. I've got an article on how to work them, especially how to modify them once they're in, here.

It's all about clicking the right number of times to get the right part of the chart selected. Then right-click and choose Object Properties to make the changes you want. That's the gist, anyway.
