Crabby creatures seemed to throng my way to work yesterday.

The lions looked cold and unimpressed, Neptune pissed off, the imp... well, impish.
Once you start to notice these things, you see civic art, putti and random animals all over. My walk to work included Brunel, two Neptunes, an elephant, several cherubs and seraphim (some limbless), imps, devils, satyrs, a penguin and some raging foamy horses.

Wow the humanoids are scary, be wary of lens shattering thru visual obscenities!

Btw my phone is being a little git at the moment and I am suspicious that it might have something to do with the newly opened offices over the road. If you try calling me and all goes blank try again. Even texts may take hours to get thru. You have the office number tho right?

Alas, we get no such awesome here. Everything is shining glass and steel and unadorned. If there are some older buildings left, they are of the school of design that said "Right, well.. if we just make it look like a prison on the outside..."

architecture here is going that way, its just that we tend to build round the older stuff

This town/city really lacks details on buildings like that.. Most houses look like they've been built to be a place you can stuff people into (probably somewhere between 1930 and 1950?).. well, I suppose they were! And the trend goes on. I'm just glad for the mostly-glass stuff they build as office-buildings nowadays, a welcome change from blocks of concrete.

i think London was lucky enough to be rich at the turn of the century (i.e. 1900), so a lot of silly details are from that period

Southampton is really not so lucky: it was quite rich in the heyday of cruise liners, but most of those buildings are restricted to the seafront. Mostly it's kinda bland
