I have Had My Hair Cut, seen Grindhouse in its entirety at the Stoke Newington Rio and eaten a lot of very cheap but mighty fine Turkish food. All of these turn out to be Good Things.

Special mention goes to Edgar Wright's trailer for "Don't". My hair is Rather Different That It Has Been Of Late.

the Rio was the best place to see it too: tiny tiny art deco cinema which really reminded me of when you could smoke in cinemas. Kinda endearingly low-tech.

Also I have to say HUBBA HUBBA CRAZY BABYSITTER TWINS at this point

I saw it in the little arts cinema in Aberystwyth - apparently they were the only place which got away with booking both films to play back-to-back at release, by having sold tickets *before* the distributors knew they weren't letting theaters do that. It was amazing :V

In the same horror film festival I got to see Black Sheep and Zombies 3...

It's one of the old italian zombie films - it was fantastic to see on the big screen!

The cinema didn't get all of the trailers for grindhouse, just the ones that came with the films separately, so they showed a couple of *real* grindhouse trailers as well, like the trailer for "I eat your flesh" and "I drink your blood".

So is Grindhouse qua Grindhouse better than the two movies on their own (which is the way I'm likely to see them as Grindhouse doesn't seem to be out as such on DVD)?

Hm, difficult question. I thought that Planet Terror was a better film when longer (i.e. by itself), but the effect is different than when you get two shorter films back-to-back with the silly trailers in the middle, because the pacing is different. Also, I LOVE Robert Rodriguez films, so anything that has more film is good by me. Having said that, I didn't overly notice what was cut out in the shorter double bill version, the film just seemed to flow a little less smoothly. Of course, given the whole remit of Grindhouse, that may well be the point!

I haven't seen Deathproof by itself, but I can't really see how it would benefit from being longer. I believe that the longer version has more lapdancing and a little more Kurt Russell. I liked Deathproof more than I thought I would, but as usual got irritated by the obligatory way-too-long self-indulgent round-the-table-conversation scene about retro films that the characters seem to have in every Tarantino film. It felt a bit long even in the truncated format tbh!

Erm, that didn't help much did it!?
